Ballad

Introduction

Ballad is a narrative poem, often set to music, that tells a story in short stanzas. It traditionally features rhyme, repetition, and a clear plot, frequently involving love, tragedy, or heroism.

Structure

A ballad usually has four-line stanzas with rhymes, often ABAB or ABCB. The lines follow a steady rhythm, and repeated lines or refrains make the poem more musical and easy to remember.

Example Poem

To Whom It May Concern
